OSHA has developed the HAZWOPER 24 hour program to protect workers at hazardous sites and has devised extensive regulations to ensure their safety and health. What is Hazwoper?

Hazwoper is the OSHA acronym for "Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response Standard". Activities related to stopping the oil spill or containing the spilled oil fall under the "emergency response" activities under OSHA's Hazwoper standard, 29 CFR 1910.120 and 1926.65.

Cleaning up the shoreline is considered "post-emergency cleanup operations" and has specific requirements, but still requires 24 hour or 40 hour Hazwoper training depending on whether the Permissible Exposure Levels are exceeded.

The Gulf Oil Spill is currently being treated with chemical dispersants like COREXIT and you must be aware of proper procedures in dealing with it.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES - HAZWOPER 24 HOUR Course:

Understand the purpose of OSHA and its role in regulating occupational safety

Hazwoper 24 Hour Course Testing:

All module quizzes require a score of 70 or higher to proceed forward in the course. The final exam also requires a minimum score of 70 to receive a certificate of completion. The final exam may be taken three times if necessary.

Hazwoper 24 Hour Course Time to Completion:

Once you enroll in the OSHA Hazwoper 24 Hour Training course you will have 6 months to successfully complete the course. If you do not complete the course in 6 months you will not receive a certificate for course completion.

Hazwoper 24 Hour Certificate:

Upon successful completion of course you will be able to print your certificate.

Our OSHA Trainer of Record is Michael Milsapp. Michael holds a Degree in Occupational Safety and Health and has 18 years of experience in the Safety Industry to include Fire Fighter, Safety Consultant, Safety Specialist, and Gas Detection Regional Manager. Michael has worked for the United States Air Force, First American Safety and Environmental and 3M Company.

Michael has successfully completed the OSHA 500 and 501 trainer courses and is OSHA authorized to teach 10 and 30 hour outreach courses for both construction and general industry. Michael has held certifications as HAZMAT Technician, EMT Basic, Firefighter 1 & 2, and various driver operator fire apparatus certifications.
